Terms of Use
Last updated: October 22, 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Aatlas, Inc. ("Aatlas," "we," "us") when you use aatlas.com and app.aatlas.com. We've written them to be read. If anything is unclear, ask us: support@aatlas.com.
1. The agreement
By creating an account, adding to an Aatlas, or buying anything from us, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. You must be 13 or older to use Aatlas. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to these Terms for you.
2. What Aatlas is
An Aatlas is a digital collection celebrating the life of one person — the Hero. The Aatlas owner is the account that holds an Aatlas: they curate it and choose who is invited. People the Aatlas owner invites to add stories, photos, and other media are invited contributors; some add through an invitation link without creating an account. Whoever writes a memory is its memory author. From everything gathered, Aatlas generates living views — slideshows, timelines, maps — that grow with every contribution.
3. Your account
Keep your sign-in details secure; you're responsible for activity under your account. Give us accurate information, keep your email current (it's how we reach you about your Aatlas), and tell us immediately at support@aatlas.com if you believe your account has been compromised.
4. Purchases
Pay once. No subscription, ever. An Aatlas is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. Current tiers: a single Aatlas ($99), a Family 3-Pack ($249), and a Family 5-Pack ($399). Each purchased Aatlas includes hosting as described in §6 and 5 GB of storage; additional storage can be added as a one-time upgrade. Extra storage: +5 GB for $50, +10 GB for $90, +20 GB for $180, each a one-time purchase. Prices may change for future purchases, but a change in price never affects what you have already bought. Payments are processed by Stripe; applicable taxes are added at checkout. Family Pack credits may be used by you or given to others; a credit becomes an Aatlas when it is redeemed. You can give an Aatlas as a gift. Until the person you give it to starts their Aatlas, you can ask us for a refund within 30 days of buying it. Once they've started, the Aatlas is theirs, and only they can ask us to refund it. The refund always goes back to the card that paid.
Giveaways. Our monthly nomination giveaway has its own rules. A giveaway Aatlas works like any other Aatlas under these terms, except that it was free, so there is nothing to refund.
5. The Satisfaction Promise (refunds)
If Aatlas isn't what you hoped, tell us within 30 days of purchase and we'll refund you in full — no questions asked. If you'd like to tell us what fell short, we'd be grateful, but you never have to. Refunds go back to the original payment method. If someone under 18 bought something from us, a parent or guardian can ask us for a full refund, and we'll give it.
What a refund does. A refund returns your payment and retires the Aatlas it paid for. The Aatlas becomes read-only — nothing in it is deleted — and for 30 days you can ask us for a complete copy of it. After that the Aatlas is closed. It is never deleted, so memories other people added are never lost because of a refund.
6. The Permanence Promise: how long your Aatlas lasts
Your Aatlas is paid for once. We will never charge you to keep it, and we never delete an Aatlas for inactivity. If Aatlas ever has to close, we will tell you at least 90 days ahead and send every Aatlas owner a complete copy.
7. Your content
You own what you add. Every memory, photo, video, and recording you contribute remains yours. You grant Aatlas a non-exclusive, worldwide license to host, store, reproduce, and display your content solely to operate the service — to show your contributions to the people the Aatlas owner has given access, to generate slideshows and other views, and to keep backups. This license ends for content you delete, except for files we have not yet erased from storage (see our Privacy Policy, “How long we keep it”), a photo deleted from the Gallery that we keep so it can be brought back, and as needed for legal compliance and rolling backup expiry.
How owner and contributor rights fit together. The Aatlas owner curates the Aatlas: they may remove contributions within it. The Aatlas owner is responsible for whom they invite. Every memory author keeps ownership of what they wrote and may remove it at any time; if you added a memory through an invitation link without an account, write to support@aatlas.com and we'll remove it for you. Removing a contribution removes it from the Aatlas; it does not undo copies made while it was shared.
Tagging. Naming or tagging a person in a memory is descriptive information only — it does not give that person access to the Aatlas or any rights in it.
Your responsibility. Only add content you have the right to share. By contributing, you confirm your contributions don't violate anyone else's rights or the law.
8. AI-assisted features
Some features use AI to make capturing a memory easier: a voice recording can be turned into text, and a title, a date, a place or a topic can be suggested for a memory. These run automatically as you add a memory, and their results are always yours to edit or discard. We never use AI to fabricate memories. The AI companies that process your content for us are not allowed to train their models on it (see our Privacy Policy, "Why we use it"). One-time AI assistance of this kind is included with your purchase.
Connecting your own AI assistant. You can choose to connect an AI assistant of your own, such as Claude, to an Aatlas you have access to. When you do, the company that makes it can read that Aatlas's words and photos under your own account with them and their terms, not ours. Anything the assistant writes is saved as a draft until a person approves it. You can disconnect at any time.
9. Acceptable use
Aatlas exists to celebrate real lives. You agree not to use it to: harass, defame, or impersonate anyone; upload content that is unlawful, hateful, or sexually exploitative; violate another person's privacy or intellectual property; introduce malware or attempt to breach our systems; scrape or harvest data; or resell access to the service. We may remove content or suspend accounts that violate this section — permanence protects what you've entrusted to us, not abuse.
Be a good guest. Every Aatlas belongs to a family and is about a real person. Be honest, be kind, and respect the Aatlas owner's choices about their Aatlas.
10. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy — what we collect, what we never do, and the full list of services we use — is part of these terms. The standing commitments: we don't sell your data, we don't train AI on it, and we don't run advertising trackers.
11. Content concerns and takedowns
If content in an Aatlas concerns you — it infringes your copyright, invades your privacy, or describes you in a way you object to — email support@aatlas.com. You don't need an account. We review every report.
If a memory is about you and you're not an Aatlas user, we'll pass your concern to the owner of that Aatlas. If you ask, we'll remove your name or tag from the memory ourselves. We remove content ourselves only where the law or our acceptable-use rules (§9) require it — for example harassment, or private information exposed without consent.
Copyright claims. For copyright claims, include the work, its location, and your contact details, and we will respond as US copyright law (the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, or DMCA) provides. Send your notice to our designated copyright agent:
Copyright Agent, Aatlas, Inc.
131 Continental Drive, Suite 305, Newark, DE 19713
support@aatlas.com
A notice needs:
- your physical or electronic signature (typing your full name in an email is fine);
- the copyrighted work you believe has been copied;
- where it appears on Aatlas — a link to the Aatlas or the memory is best;
- your name, postal address, phone number and email;
- a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorized by you, your agent, or the law; and
- a statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you own the copyright or are authorized to act for the owner.
When we receive a complete notice, we promptly remove or disable access to the content and let the person who added it know.
If your content was removed by mistake, you can send a counter-notice to the same agent. Include your signature; what was removed and where it was; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake or misidentification; and your name, postal address and phone number, with a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for your address (or, if you live outside the US, any judicial district where Aatlas can be found) and will accept service from the person who sent the original notice. Unless that person tells us they've gone to court, we restore the content in 10 to 14 business days.
Please be accurate: anyone who knowingly misrepresents that content infringes, or that it was removed by mistake, can be liable for damages.
Repeat infringement. We close the accounts of people who repeatedly infringe other people's copyright (see §12).
12. Closing your account, and termination
By you: you can close your account at any time by writing to support@aatlas.com. When you close it, we remove your sign-in and contact details within 30 days. Memories you wrote in other people's Aatlases stay, with your name on them. At any time — before or after closing — you, or anyone with the legal right to act for you, can ask us to take your name off the memories you wrote (they stay, credited to "A contributor"), or to remove the memories themselves. If you own an Aatlas, we send you a complete copy of it first, and you choose what happens to it.
By us: if someone seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms (especially §9), for example by harassing or threatening people, or deliberately damaging an Aatlas, we may remove their content, remove their access to an Aatlas, or suspend or close their account. We choose the smallest step that protects people.
We tell you why. Where it is lawful and safe, we'll warn you first. Whenever we act, we'll write to you with what we did, the part of these terms it relates to, and how to ask us to reconsider.
You can ask us to look again. Reply to that email or write to support@aatlas.com, and we'll review it again carefully and tell you the outcome.
No coming back on another account. If we close your account, you may not create a new one, or use someone else's, to return to Aatlas without our permission.
Aatlases are protected. Closing an account never deletes an Aatlas. If we close an Aatlas owner's account, their Aatlas becomes read-only, nothing in it is deleted, we send them a complete copy, and the memories other people added stay safe. Anyone who added memories can still ask us for a copy of what they wrote.
Money and ownership. Termination for violations does not entitle you to a refund after the 30 days in §5, but it never transfers ownership of your content to us.
13. Disclaimers, liability, and disputes
Aatlas is provided "as is" to the maximum extent permitted by law; our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California; disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts of California.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Aatlas evolves. If a change is material, we'll email account holders at least 14 days before it takes effect. A change will never retroactively reduce what a past purchase included — what §6 promised when you bought stands as written.
